A voyage of self-discovery (oh, and elephants)

Those of you that visit our blog regularly have probably been wondering where the heck we’ve been. That, my friends, is a very long story.

Our videographer Paris recently embarked on a journey to rediscover his roots. Fellow Laotian Soumaly and With This Ring owner Brian tagged along to capture every moment. Paris was born in Luang Prabang, Laos. Due to political turmoil in the country decades ago, his family was forced to flee across the Mekong River into Thailand…and later to the United States…when he was only a year and a half old.

The three of us set out, suitcases and bug spray in tow, to return thirty years later and see just what Laos is all about.

Our time there culminated with a visit to the Pak Ou caves, a short two-hour longtail boat ride from center of town. The lower Pak Ou cave is filled with hundreds of religious artifacts that, each April during the Laos new year, are cared for as villagers make pilgrimage to clean them with holy water.

Of course, there’s been time for a few tangents as well. On our visit to The Elephant Village on the banks of the Nam Khan river we made some new, very large friends. Take a peek below. 🙂

As for now, we’re in Thailand sightseeing for another week. We’re having the time of our lives, but we’re all are VERY excited to get home and back to what we do best – creating YOUR wedding films!
