Benton Chapel
Wedding video + photos
Vanderbilt University's largest chapel, built in 1959, with classic stained glass and a spire that's been part of the Nashville skyline ever since. Frances and Jim were married here, then celebrated at the Schermerhorn.
A film we shot at Benton Chapel

From the wedding we filmed here
Frances and Jim's two-day celebration came here for the ceremony, with the largest wedding party we filmed that year. From the balcony we caught one of our favorite moments: the two of them secretly mouthing "I love you" to each other in the middle of the ceremony. It's in their film. Then everyone headed downtown to the Schermerhorn for the reception.

From behind the camera
Filming at Benton Chapel: what we've learned.
- Best first look spot
- Inside, before your guests arrive: one of you walks down the empty aisle under the stained glass. It feels like a private preview of the ceremony.
- The light
- The stained glass in the sanctuary lights up when the sun hits it at just the right angle. Early afternoon and early evening ceremonies tend to catch it at its best.
- The ceremony
- In the sanctuary, where the long aisle makes a perfect walk-in, especially if you're saving your first look for the ceremony itself. The balcony level gives us a perfect vantage point to film it all from above.
- If it rains
- Your ceremony is indoors, so rain only affects arrivals and any portraits outside.
- Drone-friendly?
- Yes. Our FAA-licensed pilots handle campus and airspace permissions ahead of your date.
- One tip for your timeline
- Plan a few minutes for portraits on the generous green spaces outside the chapel, and build travel time into your timeline, since your reception will be somewhere else.
